Sue Azam-Ali, New Lead Volunteer for Rest of the World

Feb 23, 2024

Hello! I’m Sue, your new ROW District Lead Volunteer.

Some of you may know me from 1st KL, where I did most of my Scouting over the past 13 years. I started as parent volunteer, then Cub Leader followed by Scout Leader, Explorer Leader and GSL – most of the time wearing many hats at the same time!

I’ve been back in the UK for a couple of years now, and wanted to stay associated with the District, so when the opportunity to apply for the DC role came up, I thought I would have a go!  And here I am…

Now it’s a very new hat!  I hope I can wear it well!

I’m really looking forward to this new role, most of all getting to know you all and leading this unique District, helping it grow and continuing to provide fantastic Scouting opportunities for all our young people.

Just to finish, I would like to say a big thank you to Jon for the tremendous work over the last 8 years to bring our District together and get us to where we are now.  You are going to be a hard act to follow, but in true Scouting form, I will do my best!!

From the Area Lead Volunteer, Nathan Prince

Having had the pleasure of meeting Sue and her son Sami during their family holiday in Muscat in 2015, just before taking him and other BSO YP to the 2015 World Scout Jamboree, adds a special personal touch to my heartfelt welcome to Sue Azam-Ali as she steps into her new role as District Lead Volunteer for the Rest of the World District. Reflecting on that memorable encounter and seeing Sue's journey in Scouting since then, from her commendable leadership roles at 1st Kuala Lumpur to now leading this unique District, fills me with immense pride and confidence in her capabilities. Jon's legacy of dedication, innovation, and community-building leaves big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt that Sue, with her proven commitment and visionary leadership, will carry forward this legacy with great distinction. I am thrilled to support Sue in her new journey and look forward to seeing how her leadership will further enrich Scouting across every aspect of her new District.

Attending an international Scout Jamboree is a transformative experience that combines adventure, learning, and cultural exchange, helping Scouts develop into well-rounded individuals with a strong sense of belonging and the ability to work in teams. Since 2017, we have attended many international summer jamborees which have all been chosen by our members

Great representation from BSO at the British Embassy in Madrid as the Royal British Legion launched their Poppy Day appeal 2024. Well done to Catherine Fenton and the 1st Madrid Scout Group for achieving recognition for the amount of their donation from last year. Amazing community engagement with John Pearce and the team from 1st Majadahonda Scout Group along with Southern Europe DLV Kenny Lee.

Great for Kenny Lee to present several awards at the 1st Bougival Scout Group during the British School of Paris 70th birthday celebrations with an 1950s style open day.
