We have great pleasure introducing you to our new AAC(Events) – Steven Hartley. Steven is based near Lincoln as an Explorer Leader and has previously held several County roles. He has experience in delivering multiple large events, including summer camps, expeditions, managing activity zones at large Jamborees and was a Unit Leader at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan 2015.
I (Steven) started Scouting at the age of 8 (Beavers didn’t exist back then!) and have been involved in one way or another ever since. I met my wife, Lucy, through Scouting and we have two young children, the oldest, Arthur, about to start his own Scouting adventure as he’s now 5 and a half. Of course, he and Edith have both being Scouting since birth really.
My previous role as ACC International was exciting and challenging and I’m looking forward to more of the same with BSO. I’ve attended 3 World Scout Jamborees in various roles, delivered Explorer Belt Expeditions, summer camps and supported D of E expeditions. I’m also an Explorer Scout leader in a small village outside of Lincoln with a great bunch of young people.
For work, I’m an Operations Control Manager, which means I work shifts covering all hours of the day making sure customers have clean safe water when they need it and manage anything that goes wrong. At home, if I’m not playing with the children, I will be reading a good book or planning our next family holiday (in more normal times!)
