New Local Learning Lead for Southern Europe

Jul 17, 2024

From the Area Learning Leads, Jos & Irina.

We're delighted to introduce Dianne Peel, our new Local Learning Lead for Southern Europe.

Introducing Dianne

I have been involved with Guiding and Scouting most of my life. Moving up

through Brownies and Guides before becoming a Cub Leader in Luton with a new Scout Group we formed in my local church in 1967. When my family returned to Leicestershire, I joined a local Group in the role of ACSL and then CSL in a newly formed Group in the next village.

After getting married and having my children I took on the role of CSL in my own area of Leicestershire in 1980. During my 28 years with the Group, I also held the role of Acting GSL and District CSL and helped to organise and run District sports and other events and camps.

Outside of Scouting I worked as a Teacher and Key Stage one Co-ordinator in a large Primary School. I was able to use knowledge and skills from my work alongside my knowledge and skills from Scouting to help young people with their learning both in the school setting and in the Scout Group.

We moved to Spain in 2009 and my husband Alan and I both took on leadership roles with 1stFuengirola Scout Group. My current role with the Group is CSL and I work with our leadership team to run the Cub and Beaver meetings. Over the years I have supported several Young Leaders, by providing them with opportunities to gain leadership skills in their work with the Cubs and Beavers, and validated their modules as they worked through the Young Leader Scheme.

Throughout my 50+ years as a leader I have enjoyed many adventures and hopefully passed on my enthusiasm for scouting to young people and adults that I have worked with. I continue to gain great satisfaction from helping young people and adults learn “skills for life”.

Having taken on the role of Training Advisor in Southern Europe in 2015, I am pleased to accept the role of Local Training Manager and I look forward to continuing to support adults with their learning.

Attending an international Scout Jamboree is a transformative experience that combines adventure, learning, and cultural exchange, helping Scouts develop into well-rounded individuals with a strong sense of belonging and the ability to work in teams. Since 2017, we have attended many international summer jamborees which have all been chosen by our members

Great representation from BSO at the British Embassy in Madrid as the Royal British Legion launched their Poppy Day appeal 2024. Well done to Catherine Fenton and the 1st Madrid Scout Group for achieving recognition for the amount of their donation from last year. Amazing community engagement with John Pearce and the team from 1st Majadahonda Scout Group along with Southern Europe DLV Kenny Lee.
