During the pandemic, many Groups lost volunteers as companies restructured and people were repatriated. We now have a number of Groups struggling to survive and inexperienced but enthusiastic leaders need some help to get these Groups back on their feet. We are looking to build a pool of experienced mentors to work alongside the leadership teams of struggling and brand-new Scout Groups across BSO. We are particularly looking for experienced GSLs, Section Leaders (Beavers, Cubs & Scouts) as well as experienced Group Chairs, Secretaries and Treasurers. You should have the time to commit to the task which may stretch over several months whilst the Group's leadership gets stronger in their abilities.
What kind of tasks do we need you to do? We might ask an experienced GSL to take on an acting GSL role until somebody from the group can take over. We might ask an experienced section leader to work closely with a new section leader to plan and deliver a brilliant programme whilst they develop the confidence to run their section.
The person that you support may or may not be in your District. You would support individuals virtually using online video conferencing systems like MS Teams and by email. Area guidance and support will be available.
We welcome expressions of interest from BSO members and from across the Scout Association as long as you have the necessary experience. If you are interested, please complete our expression of interest form.
If you have any questions, please contact Deputy AC - Debbie Phillips
