January 2016

January 3rd, 2016

Happy New Year!  If you’ve made a new year’s resolution to enjoy more singing this year, now is a great time to come and join Glossop Choral Society.  We start rehearsing our new music from Monday 11th January at the Central Methodist Church Hall in Glossop (go to ‘About’ then ‘Rehearsals’ page for details).  As everyone is at the beginning of learning the new pieces, it’s a good time to come and give it a go.  Everyone is welcome and we are especially looking for new first sopranos, tenors & basses.

All you need to do  is come along at about 7.15pm and introduce yourself to Rita and Sue who take the register.  They will help find you a seat and introduce you to some fellow singers.  Music scores are hired by the choir and lent out to all members in the first couple of weeks and there are always a few spare copies for new members.  Singers bring with them a pencil for making notes on the score as suggested by our conductor, and a bottle of water for refreshment.  Subs are £70 a year and concessions are available on request for those who find this difficult.

If you’d like to know what it’s like to be in our choir, here is a reflection from one of our members:  “Concert nights are always special for me. For weeks we practice, make mistakes, have a laugh and enjoy ourselves, but when concert day comes and we have the final rehearsal with the soloists and the orchestra I get butterflies in my stomach.  How can you beat the feeling when you are standing on stage and see the audience full of expectations, the conductor raising his hand, the music starts and we sing our hearts out?”

Come and join Glossop Choral Society for fun learning, camaraderie and of course to sing and enjoy the magic of great music!
