Skills development and community outreach in 2013/14

Planning for the future development of the choir has been one of the key issues for the committee and a successful application to the BBC Performing Arts Fund for a Community Music grant presented some exciting opportunities to enhance and extend our skills.

A two-phase ‘Extension Project’ was created with a series of harmony singing workshops to improve our skills and engage with the community. The first set of workshops focused on developing the skills of choir members. The second set brought together different members of the choir and the community with varying levels of musical experience. Each workshop was designed to build confidence and develop listening and memory skills and participants found themselves learning and singing a number of complex a cappella songs within a single session.
